Giving in Style: Heather Roberts

INTERVIEW WITH HEATHER ROBERTS

Heather Roberts grew up in this community and continues to raise her family in the area. In addition to being a longtime local, she has owned her family-run doggy day care named Sit. Stay. in Newtown for 20 years.

Roberts, along with her friend Devon Scaccetti founded Keystone Community Coalition in 2023 as a way to give back to the community. Here, she talks about the organization hosting the Washington Crossing America 250 Gala on Sept. 12.

Why was the Keystone Community Coalition created?

Keystone Community Coalition was formed as a way to bring the community together and strengthen our bonds while raising funds for various organizations that are important to our area. The mission of Keystone is to support organizations, families, and other charitable pursuits that are not only important to the community but impactful. Our very first event was the Upper Makefield Police and Fire Gala in 2024. Since then, we have partnered with residents, local businesses, and other groups to raise money for organizations such as Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Shop With a Cop, and other local police and fire companies.

Why is it important to raise funds for local organizations?

The first responders and Washington Crossing Historic Park are truly appreciative of the community coming together to support them. They’re grateful not only for the monetary support but also the personal connections with the public and the residents. They love to interact with the community in a more personal realm, as these connections help to build trust and renew a sense of community.

What’s new for this year’s gala?

This year, we are hosting the Washington Crossing America 250 Gala on Sept. 12 at Washington Crossing Historic Park. The black-tie optional, invite-only event will feature a 10-piece band, incredible food, and the coming together of small business owners, residents, community leaders, and leaders of industry.

We are excited to include the Friends of Washington Crossing Park as a recipient for the gala in addition to the Upper Makefield Township Police Association and Upper Makefield Fire Company. The park is such a huge focal point for our community, and it brings people together to admire the beauty of the area, learn about history, and experience nature. With America 250 festivities happening throughout the year, we have a lot of historical elements as part of the celebration.

How can a community member or business get involved?

One way is to become a gala sponsor, which not only directly benefits the organizations involved—it also guarantees you an invite to the event. Plus, sponsors get extra perks like advertising, private tables (depending on the level of sponsorship), and thank you gifts.
